Year 12 and Year 13 started the day by writing down their ambitions on an acorn to have a visual of their dreams and hopes for their future. After the students discussed these with their peers, Year 12 split into a day made up of having a talk delivered to them about the use of books and resources for their pieces of writing which was delivered by Exeter University. This was followed by a session on managing stress, and later students attended the vital ‘Learn to Live’ event which was held again at Plymouth Pavilions, this year showcasing real events of the lives of young people on our roads.
Year 13 meanwhile are busy preparing for university, apprenticeships or work. Whilst revising for their mocks and their final summer examinations, it seemed a good time to relax and take stock of one’s wellbeing. On the Applied Learning Day students decorated pebbles and released these at the end of the day around Plymouth with some of them being rediscovered via the facebook page of Plymouth Pebbles Art. Year 13s learnt how to make anti stress balls by following a simple recipe and took another one home for future use. They also created dashboards to keep a visual of things important in their life and enjoyed a spot of yoga during lunch. These were followed by an Employability session and a step in session led by Mr White about teamwork, with the day ending with having another look at their UCAS applications.
