Parent Safeguarding Advice
Safeguarding students is a key priority for us at Coombe Dean School. Our Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) is Miss Melissa Dennis (Deputy Headteacher: Inclusion). You can contact our DSL on 01752 406961 or by email on: mdennis@coombedean.co.uk
We are required to draw the attention of parents and carers to our Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy: Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy
Our policy will tell you about potential safeguarding risks, key staff and our referrals procedure.
We must inform all parents and carers that there may be occasions where we have to make safeguarding referrals to external agencies, without parental notification. In these cases, we assure you that we are always acting in the best interests of a child’s safety.
The Prevent Duty – Preventing Extremism and Radicalisation
What is the Prevent Duty?
Prevent is a government strategy designed to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorist or extremist causes. The Prevent Strategy covers all types of terrorism and extremism, including the extreme right wing, violent Islamist groups and other causes.
How does the Prevent Strategy apply to schools?
From July 2015 all schools (as well as other organisations) have a duty to safeguard children from radicalisation and extremism. This means we have a responsibility to protect children from extremist and violent views the same way we protect them from drugs or gang violence. Importantly, we can provide a safe place for students to discuss these issues so they better understand how to protect themselves.
