Last week’s Information Evening had a Mediterranean feel to it: a balmy evening with parents and staff chatting informally in the quad and on the sixth form patio. Many parents took advantage of the presentations that were on offer, but the majority opted for a tour of the school with staff or sixth formers.
Whilst parents enjoyed the warm evening, their children were experiencing a slightly more frenetic event. Having been divided into ten groups, all the children were taken to two activity sessions with staff, which gave them a flavour of what lessons at Coombe Dean School might be like.
The evening had kicked off with the recently produced school film in which parents spoke about their experience of Coombe Dean School, and students were interviewed by Nick Baker. This had been followed by a presentation by Richard Woodland – who takes over as Headteacher in September. The hall had filled by 7.00, and so these aspects of the evening were relayed by our IT team to the Dining Hall where a large number of parents and children were able to watch the presentation in the New Hall on the two screens especially for that purpose.
A huge number of students had volunteered to help with the evening, and Years 7-10 performed the meet and greet, car parking and student guide roles, whilst sixth formers took over to provide tours of the site for parents.
All in all, it was a very successful evening. We hope that we will see these parents and pupils back in school on September 9th. On this day the whole school will be open and all staff will be present for the Year 5/6 Open Evening.
